For over 25 years, Scott Sorkin has been helping his insurance and other clients achieve their goals. His practice concentrates in the areas of insurance regulation, corporate transactions, and general corporate representations.
Whether it is obtaining insurance department approval for a complex transaction, application, filing or assisting with reporting or other corporate and regulatory matters, Scott has developed strong relationships and has been a trusted and respected advocate for his nationwide clients.
His practice consists primarily of the representation of property and casualty and life and health insurance companies, including traditional insurance companies and health maintenance organizations, stock companies, mutuals, reciprocals, exchanges, risk retention groups, group self-insurance trusts, and other alternative risk transfer vehicles. He also represents brokers, agents, management companies and other regulated entities and professionals. He provides daily guidance to his clients on a number of regulatory, corporate, transactional, and insurance coverage matters.
Scott has considerable experience and regularly assists insurance clients with company formation and licensure, including multi-state expansion, obtaining approval of their applications, rate and form and other filings, financial and market conduct examinations and compliance, resolving compliance and regulatory action matters with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance, as well as significant transaction and general corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, Form A and other insurance holding company system filings, restructurings and conversions, insurance company taxation, reinsurance, loss portfolio transfers, corporate governance, cybersecurity, privacy, and legislation.
His experience and involvement at the national level has been extremely rewarding and has allowed him to provide additional value to his clients. He currently serves as the Chairman and President of the Federation of Regulatory Counsel, Inc., a nationwide professional association of insurance regulatory attorneys formed for the purpose of raising the standard of excellence in the practice of regulatory law. He is also a member of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals and regularly attends meetings of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. In addition, Scott serves as an independent corporate director for several U.S. insurance companies.
Scott also has considerable experience representing a broad array of other businesses and professionals in regulatory compliance, corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, business sales, financings, tax-exempt bond financings, tax, and other significant transactions and corporate matters.
